Architectural design review is an important step in acquiring financing for your development project. We distribute architectural design guidelines to promote the creation of cost-effective and quality affordable housing. The guidelines and review process are not intended to limit the architectural creativity to any particular building challenge. Designers and development teams are encouraged to find innovative and creative design solutions to all affordable housing projects.

The design guidelines and review process specifically protect the affordable units that are part of market rate projects. The quality of spaces and material, number and size of rooms, amount of closet space, and amenities available for affordable units shall be the same as for market rate units.

Developers can initiate the design review process by submitting a completed HCIDLA application. See the complete guidelines to learn about design review submittals.
